Cambridge Arts Theatre is an independent theatrical charity, dedicated to bringing people together to inspire and celebrate the power of live performance. A national organisation with its feet firmly in the community, we are a dynamic and inclusive space where diverse stories are told and shared.

We are committed to encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion and creating an environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.  We truly believe that the range of experience that diversity brings is an asset to our business and we want to create an inclusive, welcoming environment for all who work at or visit Cambridge Arts Theatre.

Having recently announced a generous gift of £16 million from Lord David and Dame Susie Sainsbury via the Gatsby Foundation, and about to embark on a further fundraising campaign, CAT is on the cusp of hugely exciting times. This new chapter for CAT will see us enter a major redevelopment project to restore and improve the Theatre’s physical space as well as build a new studio space where artists, theatre makers and our local community can meet, share ideas and create new work.

We are currently seeking a Chair and several Trustees to provide strategic leadership, guidance, and governance oversight to ensure the effective governance of the charity. They will work closely with the Executive and Board to fulfil our mission and vision, and will cultivate relationships with donors and stakeholders to enhance our visibility and support. They will bring proven experience in a leadership role with the ability to provide strategic direction and inspire others; experience of raising significant charitable funds; strong understanding of governance principles and experience of serving on boards or in leadership positions. They will also ideally offer experience of delivering capital projects and will be able to advise and challenge the executive in this regard. New Trustees may offer skills and experience in community engagement, fundraising, and law, though we are keen to hear from individuals with a broad range of backgrounds.

Our next Chair and Trustees must bring a genuine passion for theatre and the performing arts, coupled with a deep appreciation for the role they play in enriching communities and promoting diversity.
