Enabling sustainable and more equitable lives for all

SNV is a mission-driven global development partner driven by the vision of a better world: one where across every society, people live with dignity and have equitable opportunities to thrive sustainably.

Rooted in the contexts and societies we work in and inspired by the transformational principles and objectives set out by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we are committed to building resilient agri-food systems that deliver food security and adequate nutrition; Increasing the reliability and availability of water and sanitation at an acceptable quantity and quality; and improving access to affordable and sustainable energy for all.

We work to strengthen institutions and effective governance, to reduce gender inequalities and barriers to social inclusion, and to enable adaptation and mitigation to the climate and biodiversity crises. We recognise that today’s problems are not just technical puzzles, but that they represent complex systemic challenges. This requires that we strive for systems transformation that goes beyond surface solutions and fighting symptoms, and that we look beyond project boundaries.

We are one team of over 1,600 people, the vast majority of whom come from the contexts in which we work, that is in more than 20 countries in Africa and Asia. Together, we are committed to effective and efficient stewardship of resources and to maximising positive, lasting impacts. Our ability to deliver results rests on our robust foundation of experience, knowledge, evidence and learning; our commitment to strengthening capacities and catalysing partnerships; and the relationships and trust of those we work alongside.

SNV is seeking an inspirational and strategic executive leader with strong management skills to join us as our Director Country Programmes.

As part of the Executive Team, you will lead a team of +/-22 country directors that deliver SNV’s development programmes across Asia and Africa. You will be responsible for overseeing the design and delivery of country strategies, enabling contextually relevant, impactful country programmes and operations.  You will create and oversee our geographical strategy, unlocking opportunities and driving synergies and partnerships across SNV’s country offices. You ensure safe and secure working environments, especially in those fragile countries, enabling our teams to thrive.

As Director Country Programmes, you will play a crucial part in shaping strategy towards the realisation of our 2030 strategic framework. In this highly visible role, you will play a pivotal part in our organisation’s mission to enable sustainable and more equitable lives for all.

The ideal candidate for this exciting position will bring a proven track record of leading and inspiring inclusive organizational design processes, with a deep understanding of matrixed organizational working. Your background will entail 15+ years of working in development cooperation in Africa and Asia, with experience in leading technical expertise teams. You are experienced in cooperating with governments and the private sector as well as donor relations. As a strategic-thinking and impact-driven individual with solid influencing skills, you are comfortable in handling complex issues and leading teams in organic change with an adaptive leadership style, as well as navigating team development amidst complexity. You have an in-depth understanding of leading and inspiring inclusive organizational design processes, building capabilities and learning across countries whilst harnessing key cultural characteristics.  Above all, you align with our vision of a world where across every society, all people live with dignity and have equitable opportunities to thrive sustainably.

This will be a full-time position (40 hours a week) with expected travel of approximately 50%.
