The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) inspects over 1,300 independent schools in England, private further education colleges and British Schools Overseas. ISI is an independent not-for-profit organisation appointed by government to inspect and report against statutory standards. We also promote understanding of and positive engagement with the inspection process and quality assurance. Our four inspection principles prioritise manageability, collaboration, triangulation and proportionality.
ISI is now seeking three Senior Inspectors who will be responsible for leading inspections of independent schools and colleges for ISI. Reporting to the Director of National Inspections, the Senior Inspectors will play a significant role in the ongoing development and delivery of ISI’s inspection framework, including ensuring that ISI inspections meet rigorous quality requirements. They will support ISI’s contracted inspectors before and during on-site inspection as well as during the report drafting process, providing leadership and mentorship to new inspectors as well as ongoing development including through designing and delivering high quality training for existing and new inspectors.
The successful candidates will have a proven track record, ideally gained in both maintained and independent sectors, of improving standards through the leadership of effective quality assurance in schools (or groups of schools), or colleges. A minimum of five years of senior leadership experience in education is required and successful experience of inspection is highly desirable. The Senior Inspectors should have a broad understanding of educational issues across various settings and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, inspiring their trust and respect. Particular expertise in safeguarding, post-16 education or boarding would be welcome.
