Professor in Human Nutritional Sciences

The National University of Singapore (NUS) – one of the world’s leading universities, ranked first in Asia, and 8th and 17th globally by QS and THE respectively – is a vibrant community of academics, researchers, staff, students and alumni working together in a spirit of innovation and enterprise for a better world. The University’s Department of Food Science and Technology (FST) is now inviting applications for a full Professorship in Human Nutritional Sciences.

Since its initial inception as a programme in 1999, and subsequent expansion into a Department in 2020, FST has emerged as a leader in the field of Food Science and Technology, playing a pivotal role in nurturing talent and addressing global food concerns. The Department, one of eight departments in the Faculty of Science, is home to an outstanding community of scientists, professionals, students and alumni. The degree courses currently offered include  4-year B.Sc. Honours, M.Sc. by coursework, M.Sc. by research and Ph.D. by research. Large-scale collaborative research projects have been conducted with multinational companies such as Nestle, Kikkoman, Givaudan, dsm-firmenich, KH Roberts, to name just a few, as well as with SMEs. Most recently, the University launched the Bezos Centre for Sustainable Protein at NUS. Hosted by FST, this Centre is the first of its kind in Asia to advance research in alternative proteins.  The strong entrepreneurial spirit of NUS FST family is well reflected by several start-ups established by its graduates, research students, research fellows as well as faculty members. Looking into the future, the Department envisages expansion in both education and research to help Singapore to achieve food resilience and security as well as to advance Singapore’s growing food industry and enhance consumer and societal well-being.

Expanding faculty in human nutritional sciences will be key to FST’s future success. Applicants should possess a PhD degree in a related field and be able to point to excellent academic achievements and a productive - and promising - research programme. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent research programme that can compete for external funding. In addition, they will be expected to guide research students and teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Selection will be based on the candidate’s track record of relevant accomplishments and potential for outstanding future contributions.
