Established in 1920, the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) is committed to creating a healthier world for all, free of tuberculosis and lung disease. The Union is a global membership, technical and scientific organization, led by people who are committed to our vision, mission and values.
For over 100 years, The Union has been made up of the world's leading lung health experts. Our members are individuals and organizations from around the world. We are made up of government and non-government agencies, charities, donors and funders, professional groups, patient groups and civil society organizations. We bring together clinicians, managers, policy makers, front-line workers and implementers, scientists, affected persons and survivors, advocates, and civil society.
The Union strives to end suffering due to tuberculosis and lung diseases by advancing better prevention and care. We seek to achieve this by the generation, dissemination, and implementation of knowledge into policy and practice. We aim to ensure that no-one is left behind, people are treated equally, and we have a focus on vulnerable and marginalized populations and communities.
We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic leader to lead our technical departments and align the scientific strategy across TB, lung diseases and anti-tobacco research at The Union.
As the Chief Science Officer, you will lead a multidisciplinary team, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and guide the development of cutting-edge scientific solutions to improve outcomes in the fight against lung disease and TB. This role requires deep expertise in respiratory diseases, with particular focus on TB, asthma, COPD, and pneumonia, as well as knowledge of tobacco-related health issues and their role in respiratory diseases. As our work is focused on low-and-middle income countries (LMIC), the expertise should extend to the prevention and control of these health problems in LMICs. The Chief Science Officer will work closely with the Executive Director to develop and deliver on a strategy for The Union that is in line with The Union’s strategic goals and defined by the Board of Directors representing The Unions’ Membership.
The new Chief Science Officer of The Union will be an authentic, self-aware, proactive, passionate and inclusive expert and leader who has a clear understanding and commitment to The Union’s values and mission. Applications are encouraged from senior leaders from a wide variety of backgrounds.
