Chief Academic Officer

The Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) is home to 15,000 students and 2,000 staff across seven campuses throughout Ireland’s Midwest and Midland region. TUS is now seeking to appoint its inaugural Chief Academic Officer. The Chief Academic Officer will sit on the University’s Executive Management team and will report directly to the President. They will drive the strategy, operational planning and management of the Academic Functions of the University. The Chief Academic Officer sets the strategic vision and direction for the pedagogical approach for the academic portfolio of TUS and is a key leader to accomplishing the University’s academic goals as set out in TUS strategic plans. The Chief Academic Officer will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Executive Deans, Vice-Presidents of Academic Functions and with students to continuously improve and ensure a unified academic experience across all TUS campuses. The successful candidate will also work closely with the President in identifying and implementing academic approaches throughout the University, be involved in institutional planning, policy development, and problem resolution and lead in promoting a culture of continuous quality improvement across the organisation. 

The successful candidate will be an experienced senior leader bringing a record of sustained success in the management of academic provision. They will have demonstrable experience of developing strategic, operational and financial plans and be capable of horizon scanning to anticipate long term issues and trends. The new Chief Academic Officer will have evidence of enhancing academic functions and student experience through creative and innovative solutions. The successful individual will also bring a professional and engaging style with the ability to facilitate effective, collaborative communications and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
