Through its world-class precinct and extensive network, the Faculty of Medicine and Health provides students with transformative experiences that connect their expertise to real-world challenges. Offering a multidisciplinary education and research environment, the Faculty is committed to continually optimising its programs, ensuring that its disciplines are well positioned to address the challenges of 21st century healthcare. As the incoming Dean, you will be galvanised by the opportunity to work with smart and engaged colleagues to shape Faculty strategy, operations and impact.
About you (skills, capabilities and experience)
The Dean will play a pivotal role in cultivating an organisational culture that transcends disciplinary silos to advance multidisciplinary research and sustainable inter-professional education. With a vision to position Sydney as the premier university for health research and education in Australia, the Dean will inspire and steer faculty members towards achieving the University’s strategic aspirations and collective purpose, reinvigorating the strategic direction of the Faculty, fostering collaboration and innovation across all disciplines, and nurturing mutually beneficial relationships with government agencies, health services, professional bodies, independent affiliated medical research institutes, alumni, donors and community stakeholders.
A critical priority will be leading initiatives to attract, retain, and develop outstanding talent in research and education. The Dean will also oversee academic leadership, financial stewardship, and resource management of the Faculty, supported by a strong team of Deputy Deans, Associate Deans, Heads of Schools, and senior administrative staff. The Dean will play a crucial role in contributing to the University’s Sydney in 2032 strategy, ensuring the Faculty of Medicine and Health aligns with and advances the University’s long-term goals for academic excellence, innovation, and societal impact. This includes working on our Sydney Biomedical Accelerator (SBA), a first-in-Australia precinct that will fast-track scientific discovery into better clinical and patient-centred research and healthcare solutions.
