We are a global movement of people, churches and local organisations. We are the changemakers, the peacemakers, the mighty of heart.
Christian Aid exists to create a world where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty.
Poverty is an outrage against humanity. It robs people of their dignity and lets injustice thrive. We seek to eradicate extreme poverty by tackling its root causes. Together with people living in poverty, we work to create lasting change.
Christian Aid is the international development and humanitarian organisation of the British and Irish churches. We work with people of all faiths and beliefs because we believe that everyone is equal in the sight of God. For over 75 years, we have stood in solidarity with our most marginalised global neighbours, to tackle the symptoms and root causes of poverty. Our work in 26 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America is made possible by donations from the British public, and by our institutional funding partners. Supported by 41 sponsoring churches, we are part of a global movement of people and organisations who champion dignity, equality, justice, and love.
We work for equality between women and men, and for citizen voice and agency. We campaign to tackle the climate crisis and support people on the frontline to adapt to its effects. We provide urgent help when disasters strike. We work for a just peace in places of conflict and violence. And we help people living in poverty to secure a decent livelihood so they can live with dignity.
Director of Impact
This newly created leadership role, which brings together all our programming and influencing under one department, will ensure that Christian Aid maximizes its impact for people in poverty. As Director of Impact, you will ensure that Christian Aid works in a focused and coherent way to effect lasting change in the lives of people affected by poverty. You will lead our work across five Multi-Country Clusters, managing national and multi-country programmes, and providing clear strategic direction. You will ensure that we have a coherent portfolio of partnerships, that enable us to work effectively nationally and internationally, and that our influencing work in the UK and at the global level reflects and complements the work we support at a national level. The postholder will play a leading part in standing up Christian Aid’s new organisational model - of which the Impact department is a part - and shaping the culture of the organisation. You will be someone who is committed to creating change in the world; and is able to seize opportunities and mitigate risks. The successful candidate will work with a diverse and talented department, and as an integral part of our leadership team. Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will be a key member of the Directorate Team, contributing to the strategic leadership and oversight of the organisation.
Christian Aid wishes to encourage applications from a variety of backgrounds. The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record in leading development and humanitarian programmes across varied contexts, which address both the symptoms and root causes of poverty. You will need a strong understanding of how policy and advocacy creates lasting change, including how to work as part of social movements, and the relationship of influencing work internationally to programmes.
We are seeking someone committed to Christian Aid’s partnership approach with civil society and its commitment to locally-led programmes and shifting power. You will need expertise in managing culturally diverse teams and multi-country budgets, with the ability to optimise resources while ensuring high performing teams and alignment with strategic objectives. As an inclusive leader with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, you will inspire others through your integrity and vision. Perhaps most importantly, you must share our values, be able to articulate our mission and have a mature understanding of, and support for Christian Aid's faith identity.
To apply, please submit a CV and covering letter, detailing how you fulfil the role description and personal specification via the Apply button below, quoting reference 7845. The deadline for applications is 9am BST Monday 12th May.
The role will be based in London with a hybrid working pattern, requiring a minimum three days a week in our office in London. The role will entail significant international travel including to high-risk environments and a willingness to work outside standard work patterns.
The salary is commensurate with the seniority of the appointment.
Perrett Laver will conduct an executive search process in parallel with the public advertisement of the role. Longlisted candidates will be invited to interview with Perrett Laver in late May and the Selection Panel will subsequently meet to decide upon a final shortlist for the post in early-June, following which, formal interviews with Christian Aid will take place in mid-June. If you require any reasonable adjustments to assist you in the selection process, please advise us of these so that we can make appropriate arrangements.
At Christian Aid we strive to be an inclusive and diverse employer and recognise the value that this brings in helping to build strong, creative and high performing teams. We are actively encouraging racialised and sexual minorities, people with disabilities, returning parents or carers who are re-entering work after a career break, people with caring responsibilities, people from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds, women, and older workers to apply. We are working to increase the diversity across Christian Aid, and we recognise and value the contributions members of these groups make to a strong, creative and high performing organisation.
