It has a Graduate School and three Faculties, namely, Faculty of Education and Human Development, Faculty of Humanities, and Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, comprising 15 academic departments, as well as two Academies, Academy for Educational Development and Innovation, and Academy for Applied Policy Studies and Education Futures, a number of University-level research centres and Faculty-level research and professional development centres. Dean of the Faculty of Humanities

Reporting to the Vice President (Academic) of the University, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities is responsible for the dynamic and innovative leadership and management of the Faculty (https://www.eduhk.hk/fhm/en/page/homepage).  As a member of the University’s senior leadership team, he/she will foster excellence in teaching and learning, research, knowledge transfer and external relationships in accordance with the University’s vision, mission and strategic plan, and will be responsible for ensuring high standards of course provision, consistent with international best practice. Specifically, he/she will:

 

  • contribute to the strategic and academic planning, policy development and leadership of the University, and work collaboratively with other faculties, academies  and divisions;
  • provide academic leadership to the development, delivery and review of high quality teaching programmes, research and scholarship, and knowledge transfer as well as service to continuously enhance the Faculty’s reputation and performance;
  • ensure the effective management of the financial, people, physical and technological resources of the Faculty (including Departments and Centres)  to achieve the University’s strategic and academic goals (including resource allocation and staff deployment);
  • monitor the performance outcomes of the Faculty within the framework of the quality assurance policies and systems of the University; and
  • initiate and develop effective local, national, regional and international collaborative relationships with relevant professional associations, the Education Bureau, schools, universities and other education providers and research institutes, as well as connections with the wider community.

 

Requirements

Applicants should have distinguished academic standing and international recognition for his/her achievements in research, scholarship and teaching, with a doctoral degree in relevant discipline(s), a proven record of strong academic leadership experience as well as administrative experience in leadership positions in tertiary institutions, including but not limited to innovations and developments related to languages and cultures; strong established networks and collaborations with Hong Kong, Greater China and overseas professional organizations; management of human and financial resources; budgeting and external networking. The appointee must demonstrate a vision to advance the Faculty’s reputation and performance, a commitment to driving interdisciplinary research collaborations and pioneering cutting-edge developments in the relevant disciplines, and possess strong communication and networking skills to rally the support of internal and external stakeholders for the benefit of the Faculty and the University.  A good knowledge of the culture and higher education scene of Hong Kong and Greater China, and appreciation of the challenges of working in a multicultural context will be an advantage.

 

Remuneration

Concurrent with a professorial appointment, the successful candidate will be appointed as Dean of the Faculty of Humanities for an initial term of 3 years which may be renewed for a second term. Remuneration package will be highly competitive and attractive fringe benefits including housing benefits will be offered.
