Changing the Way We Care - Appointment of Advocacy Director (3714)

Children belong in families – not orphanages

Changing the Way We Care (CTWWC) will activate and amplify a global movement, operationalized at global, regional and country levels, to prevent children from entering institutions and to place institutionalized children in safe and nurturing families. The program addresses the substantial harm of institutional care to children’s development, protection, and well-being, and promotes positive outcomes for children through family-based care. Lumos Foundation, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), and Maestral International launched CTWWC in mid-2016 in response to a call for proposals by the MacArthur Foundation under its 100&Change competition. While not ultimately selected as the winner, the MacArthur Foundation made an initial commitment of $15M towards launching the initiative and a resource mobilization strategy is underway to raise funds to ensure the full program can be implemented.

CTWWC’s core values include a child-focus in their work, accountability for their actions, transformative actions to create lasting benefits and an inclusive environment. While the majority of the CTWWC Global Team will be based in CRS’ headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland, this role will be employed by Lumos Foundation USA and based in Washington DC. This role will oversee all relevant CTWWC regional advocacy staff and teams and work closely with various functions within CTWWC and externally with Maestral International, CRS, Lumos Foundation USA and Lumos Foundation.

This is an exciting role and requires an innovative and entrepreneurial mind-set as Changing the Way We Care launches as a new global initiative. We are seeking a leader who is flexible, hardworking and has strong experience in the non-profit sector. The Advocacy Director will represent CTWWWC in advocating for the child’s right to a family at the highest level of policy making globally

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in senior advocacy and/or campaigning roles; a proven track record in influencing policy and practice in large organizations such as the US Government, EU and UN agencies, faith-based organizations, private sector and/or private foundations;, experience in developing global advocacy and campaigning strategies; as well as excellent communications skills in order to effectively represent CTWWC at the highest levels. Most importantly, the Advocacy Director will be passionately committed to the mission of CTWWC.
