BookTrust is the UK’s largest children’s reading charity. We know that children who read are happier, healthier, more empathetic, and more creative. They also do better at school. Working with every local authority and across every region in the country we reach over 3 million families a year via partners in schools, children’s centres, health visitors and libraries. This incredible network helps us to deliver our programmes which improve educational outcomes, raise aspirations and ultimately effect lasting social change.
We are now seeking several new Trustees to contribute to the strategic development and continued success of BookTrust. This is an exciting time to be part of our organisation. Our new Chair, John Coughlan CBE, Chief Executive of Hampshire County Council, has recently taken up post, the Arts Council of England has confirmed our core funding through to 2021, and we are continuing to diversify our income whilst increasing our research and evaluation to assess the impact of our activities.
The successful candidates will have a passion for BookTrust’s mission, and the strategic abilities to understand and guide the development of a medium-sized organisation with a large, national reach. As experienced senior leaders in their respective fields, our new Trustees will challenge constructively and help us think creatively as we continue our journey to excellence.
We are particularly interested to engage with individuals with experience in the following areas: fundraising and income generation, early years (families and children aged 0-5), partnership working, operating at national scale, and organisational development.
We are committed to enhancing the diversity of our Board, particularly in terms of the representation of individuals from BAME backgrounds and in ensuring BookTrust’s national reach is underpinned with appropriate regional representation.
