Are you passionate about tackling climate change?

Tackling climate change effectively is a prerequisite for peaceful, prosperous societies in Europe and around the world. As climate change ignores national and sectoral boundaries, climate protection strategies need to build bridges across those divides. The European Climate Foundation (ECF) – a ‘foundation of foundations’ – was established in early 2008 as a major philanthropic initiative to help Europe foster the development of a low-carbon society and play an even stronger international leadership role to mitigate climate change.

The ECF works through several sectoral, cross-cutting and regional initiatives and collaborates with a wide network of partners to advance progress towards this shared goal. The ECF supports organisations and activities that improve lives, influence the public debate on climate action, facilitate urgent and ambitious policy in line with the objectives of the Paris Agreement and help deliver a responsible transition to a sustainable economy in Europe and around the world. The ECF team is a highly dynamic group of individuals, combining ambition and passion with a rigorous, results-oriented and analytic approach to the work.

We are currently seeking a passionate, highly strategic and well-networked individual for the role of Executive Director, European Relations. This comprises ECF’s broad engagement on policy issues and campaigns at the supra-national and the national level, including on topics such as energy systems, transport, buildings and urban systems, and governance. Reporting to the CEO, s/he will be responsible for leading the development of a politically-oriented European strategy, building on ECF’s technical capacity to position climate action at the centre of the European project and European politics. S/he will act as the direct interface for the ECF to key actors in European Institutions, and ensure timely political intelligence informs strategy and drives impact. S/he will also act as a strategic partner to the CEO and other Executive Directors in issues relating to EU policy campaigns and Brussels efforts generally.

This role offers a unique opportunity for an individual with a genuine commitment to ECF’s mission, to play a significant leadership role in a far-reaching, ambitious and influential Foundation as it strives to develop a low-carbon society for prosperity and energy security. The successful candidate will bring extensive strategic and senior-level experience in European Policy development. S/he will bring credible knowledge, and experience, of current national, European and international policy and politics, and with excellent communication skills, will be a strong advocate and network-builder for the ECF.

To apply, please submit a full curriculum vitae and covering letter, quoting reference 3743. The deadline for applications is 9am BST on Wednesday 19th September 2018.

This position will be based in Brussels, with travel to Paris and other ECF offices.
